Modern times connected Peloponnesus and Central Greece through a high-tech accomplishment, a bridge that serves the present, looking forward to the future. However, there has always been an indivisible bridge between these places, transferring ideas and the desire for freedom. Western Greece is the birth-place of the Olympic ideal, the ancient Confederation, the liberated homeland and the “Mountain Government”.
The transregional project entitled “Society of the Friends, Secrets and Oaths in Western Greece” is implemented within the framework of the interregional cooperation among the following 4 Development agencies: AITOLIA S.A, as the Lead Partner, TRIHONIDA S.A, ANOL S.A and ACHAIA S.A and aspires introducing to Greek and foreign visitors the historical and cultural route of Western Greece, from the ancient times until nowadays, as well as the unknown identity of the wider area, mainly during the difficult period of the Revolution of 1821.
Through attractive routes in nature, historical sites and monuments, as well as short biographies and memories, visitors will become aware of the unknown activity of the Society of the Friends in Western Greece and the influence of people such as Karaiskakis and Diakos and the “Mountain Government” in the overall ideology.
The suggested route, that is a colourful and sensational journey, on the traces of History, for young ones and adults, accompanied by the splendours of nature, making visitors a part of the area’s values.
